Squash Round is a productive F1 Hybrid squash producing attractive rounded, light-green fruits on vigorous plants.
It belongs to the squash and pumpkin family and is generally grown for its young, tender fruits, which have soft flesh and a mild flavour when harvested at the correct stage.
Unlike long zucchini types, this selection develops a distinctive round fruit shape.
Plants grow rapidly under suitable conditions and can continue producing when fruits are harvested regularly.
Its ability to fit both spring/summer and suitable autumn/winter growing windows makes it useful for multiple seasonal plantings in Pakistan.
Exact fruit size, colour, maturity and yield may vary according to temperature, soil fertility, irrigation and crop management.
Round Squash fruits are especially suitable for:
For the best flavour and texture, harvest fruits while they are young, tender and glossy.
Older fruits can become firmer and develop larger seeds.
G-15 P Grow Bag – 15 × 14 inch 🔗
Suitable for one Round Squash plant with regular watering and feeding.
G-20 F Grow Bag – 20 × 16 inch 🔗
Recommended for one vigorous plant with generous root space and improved moisture stability.
G-24 Grow Bag – 24 × 12 inch 🔗
Suitable for approximately one to two plants depending on spacing and plant development.
Round squash develops a broad canopy and performs better when adequate soil volume and growing space are provided.
Use fertile, loose and well-drained soil rich in organic matter.
A practical GREEN GARDENS mix can be:
50% Bhalu Mitti (Sandy Soil) + 50% Vermicompost 🔗
Squash prefers fertile soil that retains adequate moisture while allowing excess water to drain freely.
Good organic matter supports rapid plant growth, flowering and repeated fruit development.
A soil pH of approximately 6.0–7.5 is generally suitable.
Squash can be sown directly into its final growing position or started in individual seedling cells.
Sow approximately:
2–2.5 cm deep
Cover with fine soil or growing medium and water gently.
Direct sowing works particularly well when soil temperatures are suitably warm.
Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.
Seeds generally germinate within:
5–8 days
under suitable conditions.
Maintain approximately:
20°C–30°C
for good germination.
Provide approximately:
6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily
Full sun supports strong vegetative growth, flowering and fruit development.
If seeds are started in nursery cells, transplant seedlings when they have approximately:
2–3 true leaves
Handle the root ball carefully and avoid unnecessary root disturbance.
Water thoroughly after transplanting.
Maintain approximately:
60–90 cm between plants
Allow sufficient room for broad leaves and good airflow.
For row cultivation, approximately 90–120 cm between rows provides convenient growing and harvesting space.
Round squash generally develops a bushy or semi-bushy growth habit rather than a long climbing vine.
A tall trellis is normally unnecessary.
Provide adequate open space around each plant for healthy leaf and fruit development.
Maintain consistent soil moisture throughout the growing period.
Water requirements increase during:
Water deeply around the root zone.
Avoid prolonged waterlogging or repeated severe drying.
Before sowing or transplanting, incorporate GREEN GARDENS Vermicompost 🔗.
During flowering and fruiting, balanced supplementary feeding can support continued production.
Avoid excessive nitrogen, which can encourage excessive foliage growth.
Squash plants generally produce separate male and female flowers on the same plant.
Bees and other pollinating insects help transfer pollen and support proper fruit set.
Female flowers can usually be identified by the small immature fruit behind the flower.
If natural pollination is poor, flowers can also be hand-pollinated.
Apply a light organic mulch around established plants.
Mulching helps:
Keep mulch slightly away from the main stem.
Inspect plants regularly for:
Good spacing, airflow and sensible watering help reduce disease pressure.
Harvest fruits while they are:
Young, light green, glossy and tender
Do not allow fruits to become excessively large or over-mature.
Under suitable growing conditions, harvesting may begin approximately:
45–55 days after sowing
Check plants frequently because squash fruits can enlarge quickly.
Regular harvesting encourages continued fruit production.
