These hardy biennial or short-lived perennials thrive in Pakistan’s mild winters and early spring seasons, producing a spectacular show of flowers that attract butterflies and bees. Perfect for garden borders, walls, and fences, Hollyhocks add height, texture, and timeless charm to any outdoor space.
Best time to sow Hollyhock seeds in Pakistan: October to February.
In cooler regions (like northern Punjab or Islamabad), you can sow till early March.
Prefers fertile, well-draining soil rich in compost.
Ideal soil mix: Garden soil + sand + organic compost (2:1:1).
Slightly alkaline to neutral pH is best.
Requires full sunlight (6–8 hours daily) for best blooming.
In extremely hot areas, provide partial afternoon shade.
From Seeds:
Sow seeds directly into the ground or seed trays.
Cover lightly with 1 cm of soil and keep moist.
Germination time: 10–14 days in mild temperatures.
From Seedlings:
Transplant when plants are 4–6 inches tall, spacing them about 12–18 inches apart.
Keep soil moist but not waterlogged.
Water deeply 2–3 times a week in winter, more often in dry, windy weather.
Avoid overhead watering to prevent fungal diseases on leaves.
Grows best between 10°C – 28°C.
Can tolerate light frost but not extreme heat.
Blooms in late winter to early summer in most regions of Pakistan.
Apply a balanced fertilizer (NPK 10-10-10) every 3–4 weeks during active growth.
Add organic compost or cow manure before flowering for strong stems and vibrant blooms.
Remove faded flowers to encourage more blooms.
Support tall plants with stakes or grow near a wall/fence.
After flowering, allow some seeds to dry if you want natural reseeding for next season.
