Growing Instructions from Seeds

1. Sowing

Kasuri Methi is best sown directly into beds, pots or grow bags.

Sow approximately:

0.5–1 cm deep

Seeds can be scattered evenly for dense leafy production or sown in rows for easier maintenance.

Cover lightly with fine soil.

2. Germination

Keep the growing medium lightly and consistently moist.

Seeds generally germinate within:

3–7 days

under suitable cool to mild conditions.

Maintain approximately:

10°C–25°C

for good germination and early growth.

3. Sunlight

Provide approximately:

4–6 hours of direct sunlight daily

Full sun is suitable during cool winter weather.

A bright location helps produce compact, aromatic foliage.

4. Thinning

If seeds are sown densely, thin plants after emergence where required.

For individual mature plants, maintain approximately:

10–15 cm spacing

For leafy baby harvests, plants can be grown closer together.

5. Direct Growing

6. Watering

9. Leaf Harvesting

Begin harvesting once plants develop sufficient foliage.

For baby leaves, cutting can begin relatively early.

For larger leaves, wait until plants reach approximately:

10–15 cm tall

Cut leaves and tender shoots with clean scissors.

10. Regrowth

For repeated harvesting, avoid cutting plants too close to the soil.

Leave approximately:

3–5 cm of lower growth

so plants can produce another flush of leaves.

Depending on conditions, more than one harvest may be possible.

11. Flowering & Seed Production

If plants are left uncut, they eventually produce flowers followed by slender seed pods.

Allow selected plants to mature if seed production is desired.

12. Harvesting for Dry Kasuri Methi

For drying, harvest healthy leaves before they become coarse.
