Crinum is a large, long-lived bulbous perennial belonging to the Amaryllidaceae family. Depending on the variety, mature plants can produce impressive clusters of white, pink, rose or striped lily-like flowers held above broad, arching foliage.
Unlike small seasonal flowering bulbs, Crinum is best considered a permanent garden or large-container plant. Once established in a suitable location, the bulb can gradually increase in size and may produce offsets that form an attractive flowering clump over time.
Its combination of bold foliage, large flowers and perennial growth makes Crinum particularly suitable for gardeners looking for a substantial flowering feature rather than a short-season display.
Crinum develops into a relatively large plant with a substantial root and bulb system, so small containers are not recommended for permanent growing.

The growing medium should be:
Fertile, organic-rich, moisture-retentive but well-draining.
Crinum performs well in deep, fertile soil but prolonged waterlogging around the bulb should be avoided.
Prepare a deep, well-drained planting area or large grow bag.
Position the bulb:
Roots / basal plate downward and bulb neck upward.
A very important planting point:
Do not bury the entire Crinum bulb deeply.
Plant so that the upper neck of the bulb remains approximately at soil level or slightly above the surrounding soil. This planting style is recommended for several commonly grown Crinum types.
Firm the soil gently around the bulb.
Water thoroughly after planting.
For garden beds, allow approximately:
60–90 cm / 24–36 inches between mature plants
where sufficient space is available.
