Recommended Grow Bags

G-11 Grow Bag – 11 × 10 inch 🔗
Suitable for a compact batch of coriander.

G-24 Grow Bag – 24 × 12 inch 🔗
Suitable for a wider planting and regular leaf harvesting.

GREEN GARDENS Grow Bags 🔗
Larger grow bags are useful when sowing coriander in greater quantities.

Coriander does not require excessive soil depth but benefits from good surface area for dense leafy production.

Recommended Soil / Potting Mix

Use fertile, loose and well-drained soil.

A practical GREEN GARDENS mix can be:

50% Bhalu Mitti (Sandy Soil) + 50% Vermicompost 🔗

Maintain moderate soil moisture without waterlogging.

Growing Instructions from Seeds

1. Prepare the Seeds

Coriander “seeds” are technically dry fruits and commonly contain more than one seed.

Gently split the coriander fruits into halves before sowing to help improve and even out germination.

Do not crush them into powder.

2. Direct Sowing

Coriander is best direct sown in the final grow bag, pot or garden bed.

Sow approximately:

1–1.5 cm deep

Cover lightly with fine soil.

3. Germination

Keep the soil evenly moist.

Seeds generally germinate within:

7–14 days

under suitable conditions.

4. Sunlight

Provide approximately:

4–6+ hours of sunlight daily

During hotter weather, protection from strong afternoon sun can help extend leafy growth.

5. Thinning & Spacing

Thin overcrowded seedlings after establishment.

For fresh leaf production, maintain approximately:

5–10 cm spacing

Closer spacing can be used where young coriander leaves are the main harvest.

6. Watering & Feeding

Maintain reasonably consistent soil moisture without keeping the soil permanently wet.

Incorporate GREEN GARDENS Vermicompost 🔗 before sowing.

Avoid excessive nitrogen feeding.

7. Successive Sowing

For a regular supply of fresh coriander, sow smaller batches every:

2–3 weeks

instead of sowing the entire 50g pack at once.

This helps provide fresh leaves over a longer period.

8. Preventing Early Bolting

Heat, dry soil and plant stress can encourage premature flowering.

For longer leafy growth:

  • Maintain regular moisture
  • Avoid severe heat where possible
  • Harvest frequently
  • Use successive sowing

9. Harvesting

Begin harvesting once plants have developed sufficient healthy foliage.

Cut leaves and tender stems as required while allowing younger central growth to continue.

For larger harvests, plants may be cut a few centimeters above soil level while still tender.

10. Growing for Coriander Seeds

Allow selected healthy plants to flower if dried coriander seeds are required.

Harvest seed heads once they become dry and brown.

Dry the seeds thoroughly before storage.
