Chicory Rossa, commonly known as Radicchio, is a cultivated form of chicory grown for its colourful and distinctively flavoured foliage.
Plants typically develop red, burgundy or reddish-purple leaves with contrasting pale or white veins.
Depending on the particular strain, plants may form a compact head or develop a dense leafy rosette.
Radicchio has a characteristic slightly bitter taste that becomes an attractive addition to fresh salads and cooked dishes.
Exact head shape, leaf colour, maturity period and bitterness may vary according to the seed strain and growing conditions.
