About Chamomile

Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) is a cool-season annual herb known for its delicate, daisy-like white flowers with raised golden-yellow centres and fine, feathery green foliage. It is an attractive choice for home herb gardens, pots, raised beds and grow bags, and its aromatic flowers are traditionally harvested for herbal tea and dried-flower use.

Best Sowing Season in Pakistan

October – November is the recommended sowing period for Lahore and much of the hot plains of Pakistan. Chamomile performs best during cool to mild weather.

How to Sow Chamomile Seeds

1. Fill a seedling tray, small pot or nursery container with a fine, light and well-draining growing medium.
2. Scatter the tiny seeds thinly over the surface.
3. Press the seeds gently onto the moist growing medium. Do not bury them deeply.
4. Water with a fine mist so the seeds are not displaced.
5. Keep the surface consistently moist but never waterlogged.
6. Once seedlings are established, thin them to prevent overcrowding.

Sunlight

Provide approximately 4–6 hours or more of good sunlight for healthy growth and flowering.

Watering

Water lightly and regularly while plants are young. Once established, allow slight drying of the upper soil between waterings. Avoid waterlogging and ensure good drainage.

Plant Spacing

Maintain approximately 6–8 inches between plants where space allows. Good spacing improves airflow and helps plants develop naturally.

Soil & Feeding

Use a light, fertile and well-draining growing medium. A moderate quantity of mature vermicompost may be mixed into the potting medium. Cocopeat can also be used to improve moisture retention and keep the growing medium light. Avoid excessively heavy or continuously wet soil.

Flowering & Harvesting

Harvest flower heads when they are fully open and dry. For dried use, spread the flowers in a single layer in a cool, dry and well-ventilated place away from strong direct sunlight. Store only after they are thoroughly dry.
