Description

Vitax Slug Rid is a ready-to-use pelleted bait designed specifically for the control of slugs and snails in home gardens, kitchen gardens, vegetable beds, flower beds and ornamental planting areas.

Unlike insecticides designed for aphids, whiteflies or mites, Slug Rid is a molluscicide, meaning it specifically targets molluscs such as slugs and snails. Its active ingredient is Ferric Phosphate, at approximately 10 g/kg (1%) in the pelleted bait formulation.

The pellets are scattered directly onto the soil surface around susceptible plants. After feeding on the bait, slugs stop feeding on the plants and move away from the treated area. The pellets can absorb moisture from damp soil and become more attractive to feeding slugs.

How It Works

Vitax Slug Rid works as a bait rather than a contact spray.

The pellets are eaten by slugs and snails. After consuming the bait:

1. Feeding on plants is reduced/stopped.

2. The slug or snail moves away from the feeding area.

3. It subsequently dies away from the treated plant area.

The pellets can also absorb moisture from damp soil, helping maintain their attractiveness as bait. 

How to Use

1. Identify Slug or Snail Damage

Apply at the first signs of damage, such as:

• Irregular holes in leaves

• Young seedlings being eaten

• Damaged lettuce or cabbage leaves

• Slime trails

• Slugs or snails visible around plants

2. Apply to Moist Soil

Scatter the pellets evenly and thinly over moist, bare soil around the plants requiring protection.

Do not place pellets in large piles.

3. Best Application Time

Apply preferably:

Early Morning
or
Late Evening

Slugs and snails are generally more active under cool, moist conditions during these periods. 

Recommended Application Rate

5g per square metre

Scatter evenly around the affected or vulnerable plants.

When to Reapply

Inspect the treated area regularly.

Repeat application only when required and according to the original product label, particularly if:

• Slug/snail activity remains high

• New damage appears

• Pellets have been consumed or dispersed

• Weather conditions favour renewed slug activity

Do not exceed the maximum treatment frequency stated on the product label.

Best Conditions for Application

For better results:

• Apply when soil is slightly moist

• Apply during early morning or evening

• Scatter pellets evenly

• Protect young seedlings particularly carefully

• Inspect plants regularly for fresh feeding damage

• Avoid placing excessive amounts directly beside stems
