Grow fragrant Thai Basil at home from seeds. This aromatic culinary herb is valued for its distinctive spicy-sweet fragrance, tender green leaves and excellent use in Asian-style cooking.
Ideal for kitchen gardens, pots and GREEN GARDENS Grow Bags. For healthy leafy growth, use a loose, fertile growing medium prepared with GREEN GARDENS Vermicompost and Bhalu Mitti.

Thai Basil is an aromatic basil type known for its fresh green leaves and distinctive fragrance.
Compared with common sweet basil, Thai Basil is usually more strongly aromatic and is especially popular in Southeast Asian cooking.
Plants develop a branching, leafy habit and respond well to regular pinching and harvesting, which helps encourage fuller growth.
Thai Basil can be used in:
Fresh leaves are best added near the end of cooking to preserve their aroma.

Mix thoroughly before sowing or transplanting.
The growing medium should be:
Thai Basil prefers regular moisture but should not remain permanently waterlogged.
1. Prepare the Growing Medium
Mix 50% Vermicompost + 50% Bhalu Mitti thoroughly and prepare a fine, loose surface.
2. Sow the Seeds
Scatter seeds thinly over the soil surface.
Cover with only a very light layer of fine soil, around 3–5 mm deep.
3. Water Gently
Use a fine mist or gentle shower.
Keep the soil surface evenly moist during germination.
4. Germination
Seeds generally germinate within:
5–14 days
under suitable conditions.
5. Light Requirements
Once established, provide approximately 5–7 hours of sunlight daily.
Morning sunlight with some afternoon protection can be useful during very hot weather.
6. Thin the Seedlings
Remove weak or overcrowded seedlings once several true leaves develop.
7. Transplanting
If started in trays, transplant once seedlings are sturdy and have approximately 4–6 true leaves.
8. Plant Spacing
Maintain approximately:
20–25 cm between plants
for good airflow and branching.
9. Watering
Keep the soil evenly moist.
Water when the upper layer begins to dry, but avoid permanently soggy conditions.
10. Feeding
The recommended growing medium already contains Vermicompost.
Additional GREEN GARDENS Vermicompost may be applied lightly around established plants when required.
11. Pinching & Pruning
Pinch the growing tips regularly to encourage:
Remove flower spikes if your main goal is continued leaf production.
12. Harvesting
Begin harvesting once plants are well established.
Cut tender shoots just above a leaf node.
Avoid removing too much foliage at one time so the plant can continue growing.
