Sunflowers perform best when direct sown in their final position.
Sow seeds approximately:
2–3 cm deep
Keep the soil evenly moist until germination.
After emergence, retain the strongest seedlings and avoid unnecessary root disturbance.
7–14 days
For best results:
Maintain warm temperatures
Keep soil lightly moist
Provide good drainage
Avoid overwatering
Provide strong sunlight after emergence
Maintain approximately:
45–60 cm / 18–24 inches between plants
to allow sufficient room for tall growth and large flower heads.
Provide:
Full sun — preferably 6–8 hours or more of direct sunlight daily.
Water regularly while seedlings establish.
Once plants are growing strongly, water deeply when the upper soil begins to dry.
Avoid continuous waterlogging.
Double Tall Sunflowers develop a tall, strong and upright growth habit with impressive densely petalled blooms.
Their double flowers have a fuller appearance than traditional single sunflowers and create a striking focal point in summer gardens.
Tall plants may benefit from staking or wind protection, particularly on exposed rooftops and open sites.
Mix GREEN GARDENS Vermicompost into the soil before sowing.
Moderate feeding during active growth supports strong stems and good flowering.
Avoid excessive nitrogen fertilizer.
