Recommended Soil / Potting Mix

Avoid compact soil and continuous waterlogging.

Growing Instructions from Seeds

Sunflowers perform best when direct sown in their final position.

Sow seeds approximately:

2–3 cm deep

Keep the soil evenly moist until germination.

After emergence, retain the strongest seedlings and provide sufficient spacing for proper root and stem development.

Germination

7–14 days

For best results:

  • Maintain warm temperatures

  • Keep soil lightly moist

  • Provide good drainage

  • Avoid overwatering

  • Provide strong sunlight after emergence

Plant Spacing

Maintain approximately:

45–60 cm / 18–24 inches between plants

to allow enough room for large plants and flower heads.

Sunlight

Provide:

Full sun — preferably 6–8 hours or more of direct sunlight daily.

Watering

Water regularly while plants are establishing.

Once established, water deeply when the upper soil begins to dry.

Large sunflowers require adequate moisture during rapid growth and flower development, but waterlogging should be avoided.

Growth & Flowering

Big Size Sunflowers develop a tall, strong and upright growth habit with large flower heads carried above broad green foliage.

Because plants can become tall and top-heavy, they should be grown in a sunny location protected from very strong winds.

Support or staking may be useful where plants are exposed to wind.

Feeding

Mix GREEN GARDENS Vermicompost into the soil before sowing.

Moderate feeding during active growth supports healthy stems and large flowers.

Avoid excessive nitrogen fertilizer.
