Grow traditional Singra Mogra (Radish Pods) at home from seeds. This cool-season vegetable is grown mainly for its tender edible green pods rather than the root, making it a distinctive winter crop for Pakistani kitchen gardens.
Ideal for raised beds, open soil and GREEN GARDENS Grow Bags. For healthy plant growth and good pod development, use a loose, fertile growing medium prepared with GREEN GARDENS Vermicompost and Bhalu Mitti.
Germination Time: 4–10 days
Suitable Temperature: 15°C–28°C
Best Sowing Season: September - November

Singra Mogra is a radish-type crop cultivated primarily for its edible seed pods.
Unlike ordinary radish varieties grown for swollen roots, these plants are allowed to mature further, flower and produce long green pods. The pods are harvested while young, crisp and tender, before they become fibrous and the seeds harden.
This makes Singra Mogra a useful traditional winter vegetable for home cooking and repeated harvesting.
Tender Singra Mogra pods can be used in:
For the best texture and flavour, harvest pods while they are young, green and tender.
G-11 Grow Bag – 11 × 10 inch
Suitable for a compact planting with proper spacing.
G-12 Grow Bag – 12 × 12 inch
Provides additional root space for stronger plants and better branching.
G-24 Grow Bag – 24 × 12 inch
Recommended for growing several Singra Mogra plants together with adequate spacing.
Because plants are allowed to mature through flowering and pod formation, they generally require more room than radishes harvested early for roots.
Use:
50% Vermicompost + 50% Bhalu Mitti (Sandy Soil)
Mix thoroughly before sowing.
The growing medium should be:
Avoid excessive nitrogen fertilizer, as too much leafy growth can reduce flowering and pod production.
1. Prepare the Growing Medium
Mix 50% Vermicompost + 50% Bhalu Mitti thoroughly and prepare a loose, level surface.
2. Sow Directly
Singra Mogra is best direct-sown in its final growing location.
Sow approximately:
1–1.5 cm deep
Cover lightly with fine soil.
3. Water Gently
Water immediately after sowing.
Keep the soil consistently moist during germination but avoid waterlogging.
4. Germination
Seeds generally germinate within:
4–10 days
under suitable conditions.
5. Light Requirements
Provide approximately 5–6+ hours of sunlight daily.
Good light supports strong plants, flowering and pod production.
6. Thin the Seedlings
Once seedlings are established, remove excessive crowding.
Maintain approximately:
15–20 cm between plants
for better branching and airflow.
7. Watering
Maintain regular and even soil moisture.
Avoid prolonged dryness, especially during flowering and pod formation.
8. Feeding
The recommended growing medium already contains Vermicompost.
Additional GREEN GARDENS Vermicompost may be applied lightly if required.
Avoid excessive fertilizer application.
9. Flowering
Allow plants to mature beyond the normal root-radish stage.
Flowers will develop and later form edible green pods.
10. Plant Support
If plants become tall or heavily branched, light staking may help keep them upright.
11. Pod Development
Check plants regularly after flowering.
Harvest pods before they become thick, tough or fibrous.
12. Harvesting
Pick pods when they are:
Regular harvesting can help maintain a steady supply of tender pods.
