Avoid heavy compact soil and waterlogging.
Scarlet Flax is well suited to direct sowing.
Sow seeds approximately:
3–5 mm deep
Cover lightly with fine soil and keep the growing medium evenly moist until germination.
Thin seedlings after emergence to maintain adequate spacing.
7–14 days
For best results:
Sow shallowly
Maintain moderate warmth
Keep the soil lightly moist
Provide good drainage
Avoid overwatering
Maintain approximately:
10–15 cm / 4–6 inches between plants
for an attractive group display. This spacing is also consistent with RHS guidance for Linum grandiflorum.
Provide:
Full sun — preferably 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily.
Keep the soil lightly moist while seedlings establish.
Once established, water when the upper soil layer begins to dry.
Avoid excessive watering and continuously wet soil.
Scarlet Flax develops an upright, finely branched growth habit, usually reaching around 30–50 cm under suitable conditions.
The bright red flowers are produced above slender foliage, creating a light and colourful summer display.
Removing faded flowers can help maintain a neat appearance and encourage continued blooming.
Mix GREEN GARDENS Vermicompost into the growing medium before sowing.
Moderate feeding is sufficient.
Avoid excessive nitrogen fertilizer.
