Pack Size: 5 saffron corms (bulbs).
Grow saffron (Crocus sativus) at home with GREEN GARDENS Super Nagin (Irani) bulbs. This autumn-flowering perennial produces delicate purple blossoms with three red stigmas per flower that can be harvested and dried as a culinary spice. Flowering depends on corm maturity, weather and growing conditions.
September–October in suitable cool conditions. Flowering generally occurs in autumn; saffron performs best when temperatures are mild and soil drains freely.
GREEN GARDENS G-11 Grow Bag (11 × 10 inches) – recommended for all 5 corms. G-12 (12 × 12 inches) is another suitable choice; G-8 (8 × 8 inches) can accommodate a smaller planting. Maintain appropriate spacing and free drainage.
Mix 50% well-draining garden soil, 30% GREEN GARDENS Vermicompost, and 20% coarse sand or perlite. Adjust the mix if necessary to avoid compacted or waterlogged soil.
If flowers develop, pick them when freshly open, carefully remove the crimson-red stigmas and dry them hygienically before storing in an airtight container. Only the red stigmas are used as culinary saffron; do not eat the corms.
