Also known as False Saffron, Safflower is valued for its colourful flowers and distinctive architectural growth. It is suitable for sunny garden beds, borders, containers and grow bags.

Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius) is an upright annual with branching stems and colourful flower heads that resemble small thistles.
The flowers can add bold colour and texture to summer beds and are also suitable for cutting and drying.

Use a loose and well-draining growing medium.
Avoid heavy, compact soil and continuous waterlogging.
Sow seeds directly in their final growing position or in deep nursery containers.
Sow approximately:

Keep the soil lightly moist until germination.
Safflower develops a strong root system and generally performs best with minimal root disturbance.
