RADISH 40 DAYS is a white radish type valued for its fast growth, smooth white roots and crisp texture.

The name “40 DAYS” indicates an early-to-medium maturity type, but actual harvest timing can vary depending on temperature, sowing density, soil condition and irrigation.

Radish performs best when direct-sown into loose soil, where roots can develop freely without obstruction.

Key Features

  • Smooth white roots
  • Fast-growing radish type
  • Crisp texture
  • Mild, fresh flavour
  • Suitable for direct sowing
  • Summer late-season variety
  • Ideal for raised beds
  • Suitable for grow bags
  • Good choice for home kitchen gardens

Culinary Uses

Fresh white radish can be used in:

  • Salads
  • Raita
  • Pickles
  • Parathas
  • Vegetable dishes
  • Soups
  • Stir-fries
  • Chutneys
  • Traditional Pakistani recipes

Healthy young radish leaves may also be used in suitable cooked dishes.

Germination & Temperature

Germination Time: 3–7 days
Suitable Temperature: 15°C–28°C

Keep the growing medium evenly moist during germination.

Avoid waterlogging, as excess moisture can affect seedling health and root quality.

Recommended Grow Bags

G-11 Grow Bag – 11 × 10 inch
Suitable for a compact planting with correct spacing.

G-12 Grow Bag – 12 × 12 inch
Provides useful depth for healthy root formation.

G-24 Grow Bag – 24 × 12 inch
A practical option for growing several radish plants together with adequate spacing.

Avoid overcrowding, because crowded seedlings may produce smaller or poorly shaped roots.

Recommended Soil / Potting Mix

Use:

50% Vermicompost + 50% Bhalu Mitti (Sandy Soil)

Mix thoroughly before sowing.

For best root development, the growing medium should be:

  • Loose
  • Fine textured
  • Well drained
  • Moisture-retentive
  • Free from stones
  • Free from hard clods

Avoid fresh manure and excessive nitrogen, as these may encourage excessive leafy growth instead of proper root formation.

Growing Instructions from Seeds

1. Prepare the Growing Medium
Mix 50% Vermicompost + 50% Bhalu Mitti thoroughly.

Remove stones, hard lumps and undecomposed material.

2. Sow Directly
Radish is best direct-sown in its final growing location.

Avoid transplanting, because disturbing the root can affect shape and development.

3. Sowing Depth
Sow approximately:

1–1.5 cm deep

Cover lightly with fine soil.

4. Water Gently
Water immediately after sowing.

Keep the soil consistently moist, but never waterlogged.

5. Germination
Seeds generally germinate within:

3–7 days

under suitable conditions.

6. Light Requirements
Provide around 5–6+ hours of sunlight daily.

During warmer late-season cultivation, morning sunlight with some protection from severe afternoon heat can be helpful.

7. Thin the Seedlings
Once seedlings are established, remove excessive crowding.

Maintain approximately:

5–8 cm between plants

for proper root development.

8. Watering
Maintain regular and even soil moisture.

Avoid prolonged dryness followed by heavy watering, as irregular moisture can affect root quality.

9. Feeding
The recommended growing medium already contains Vermicompost.

Avoid excessive nitrogen-rich fertilizer, which may encourage foliage at the expense of roots.

10. Warm-Weather Care
Because this is a summer late variety:

  • Maintain consistent moisture
  • Avoid severe heat stress
  • Provide light afternoon protection during very hot weather if practical
  • Harvest promptly once roots reach usable size

11. Harvesting
Harvest when roots are smooth, firm and large enough for kitchen use.

The “40 DAYS” name should be treated as an approximate maturity indication rather than a guaranteed harvest date.

Do not leave mature radishes in the soil too long, as over-mature roots may become fibrous, hollow or excessively pungent.
