Recommended Soil / Potting Mix

Use loose, fertile, well-drained soil with plenty of aeration. A practical starting mix is about 50% suitable garden soil, 25% mature compost or GREEN GARDENS Vermicompost, and 25% cocopeat or another free-draining component; adjust according to local soil and moisture conditions. Growing Instructions from Seed Potatoes

1. Seed preparation: Select firm, healthy potatoes with sound eyes. Small whole seed tubers are preferred. If larger tubers need dividing, keep healthy eyes on each piece and allow cut surfaces to dry and heal before planting.
2. Prepare the container: Place 4–6 inches of loose growing mix at the bottom of the G-15 P grow bag. Ensure good drainage.
3. Plant: Place 1–2 seed potatoes with eyes facing upwards. Cover with approximately 3–4 inches of mix. For garden beds, allow about 12 inches between plants.
4. Water and sunlight: Provide roughly 6–8 hours of sunlight where practical. Maintain evenly moist soil, avoiding sogginess.
5. Earth up: When shoots grow taller, gradually add growing medium around the base of the stems while keeping upper leaves exposed; this protects developing tubers from light.
6. Care: Check regularly for aphids, early or late blight and other local problems. Avoid excessive leaf wetness and remove obviously diseased material.
7. Harvest: Typically around 90–120 days, once the foliage yellows and declines. Lift the tubers carefully and store in a cool, dark and well-ventilated place.
