Use:
60% Bhalu Mitti / Sandy Soil + 30% GREEN GARDENS Vermicompost + 10% Cocopeat
The growing medium should be:
Loose, light and very well-draining.
Portulaca performs particularly well in soil that drains quickly.
Avoid:
Heavy compact soil
Excessively rich soil
Poor drainage
Continuous waterlogging
Portulaca seeds are extremely small.
Sow the seeds:
On or very close to the soil surface.
Press them gently onto the growing medium and cover only very lightly, if at all.
Do not bury the seeds deeply.
Seeds can be started in seedling trays or sown directly into pots, grow bags or prepared flower beds.
Keep the growing medium:
Lightly and consistently moist until germination.
Avoid heavy watering that may wash away or bury the tiny seeds.
Seeds generally germinate within:
7–14 days
under suitable warm conditions.
For successful germination:
Use fresh seeds
Sow very shallowly
Maintain warm temperatures
Keep the medium lightly moist
Avoid deep sowing
Provide good drainage
Avoid excessive watering
Maintain approximately:
15–20 cm / 6–8 inches between plants
to allow each plant sufficient room to develop its natural spreading growth habit.
For a denser flowering carpet, plants may be placed slightly closer while maintaining adequate airflow.
Provide:
Full sun
Portulaca flowers best in bright sunlight.
For compact growth and abundant flowering:
6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily
is highly recommended.
Insufficient sunlight may reduce flowering and result in weaker growth.
Water regularly while seedlings are becoming established.
After establishment:
Allow the upper soil layer to dry before watering again.
Portulaca has succulent foliage and is relatively drought tolerant.
Avoid frequent excessive watering.
Continuous wet soil and waterlogging should be strictly avoided.
Portulaca Double Mix develops a:
Compact, low-growing and spreading growth habit
rather than upright or climbing growth.
It is particularly suitable for:
Flower beds
Garden borders
Rock gardens
Pots
Patio containers
Hanging baskets
Grow bags
Sunny rooftop gardens
Ground-cover style flowering displays
No trellis or climbing support is required.
Portulaca is especially suitable for Pakistan's hot summer conditions.
Once established, plants tolerate:
High temperatures and relatively dry conditions
better than many soft-leaved flowering annuals.
However, newly germinated seedlings should be kept lightly moist and should not be allowed to dry completely.
At planting time, mix:
into the growing medium.
Portulaca does not require excessively rich soil.
Avoid excessive nitrogen fertilizer, as this can encourage excessive vegetative growth while reducing flowering.
Moderate organic feeding is sufficient for healthy growth and prolonged flowering.
