Growing Instructions from Seeds

Phlox Star Mix is well suited to:

Direct sowing.

Seeds may also be started carefully in individual cells or containers, but Phlox dislikes unnecessary root disturbance.

Sow seeds approximately:

0.3–0.5 cm / about ⅛ inch deep.

Cover with a thin layer of fine growing medium.

Water gently after sowing.

Keep the growing medium:

Lightly and consistently moist until germination.

Important Sowing Note

Unlike several very fine winter flower seeds that require light to germinate, Phlox seeds perform better when:

Lightly covered and kept dark during germination.

Therefore:

Do not leave the seeds fully exposed on the soil surface.

Cover with approximately:

3 mm / ⅛ inch of fine soil or growing medium.

Do not bury them deeply.

Commercial Phlox growing guidance specifically recommends covering the seed because darkness is required for germination.

Germination

Seeds generally germinate within:

5–10 days

under suitable conditions.

Good germination depends on:

• Suitable cool temperature
• Correct sowing depth
• Consistent moisture
• Light seed covering
• Good drainage
• Seed freshness

Avoid:

Allowing the growing medium to dry completely or remain permanently waterlogged.

16–18°C

Transplanting

Phlox does not appreciate unnecessary root disturbance, so handle the root system carefully.
