Little Jewels Ornamental Corn (Zea mays) is a decorative maize variety valued for its small, multicoloured cobs and striking, gem-like kernels.
Sow seeds directly in fertile, well-draining soil, approximately 2.5–4 cm deep. Provide 6–8 hours of sunlight and regular watering. Grow several plants together in blocks rather than isolated rows to improve wind pollination and cob development.

Cob Type: Small, decorative ears
Kernel Colours: Mixed red, yellow, orange, purple, brown and dark shades
Plant Height: Approximately 120–150 cm, depending on conditions

G-20 F Grow Bag – 20 × 16 inch – Approximately 3–4 plants, with careful feeding and watering.
G-24 F Grow Bag – 24 × 18 inch – Approximately 4–6 plants, with suitable spacing.
G-28 F Grow Bag – 28 × 18 inch – Approximately 5–7 plants, depending on growing conditions.
For best pollination, grow multiple corn plants together. Even when grown in large grow bags, a group of bags or a garden-bed block is preferable to a single isolated container.
50% Bhalu Mitti / Garden Soil + 30% GREEN GARDENS Vermicompost + 20% Cocopeat.
Use fertile, well-draining soil with sufficient organic matter. Corn requires consistent nutrition and moisture during rapid growth.
Method: Direct sowing preferred
Sowing Depth: Approximately 2.5–4 cm
Germination: 5–10 days under favourable conditions
Ideal Germination Temperature: 24–30°C
Plant Spacing: Approximately 20–30 cm
Row Spacing: Approximately 60–75 cm
Pollination: Wind-pollinated; block planting recommended
Avoid unnecessary transplanting. Thin crowded seedlings after establishment.
Sunlight: Full sun, preferably 6–8 hours or more daily.
Watering: Maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during tassel formation, silk emergence and cob development.
Avoid prolonged dryness and waterlogging.
Growth Habit: Upright annual maize plant
Main Harvest: Mature ornamental cobs
Kernel Appearance: Multicoloured, hard and glossy
Harvesting Time: When cobs are fully mature and husks begin drying
Primary Use: Dried decorative arrangements
Allow cobs to mature fully on the plant before harvesting.
After harvesting, remove loose outer husks and dry the cobs thoroughly in a shaded, well-ventilated location.
Ornamental Corn develops male tassels at the top of the plant and female silks on the developing ears.
Wind carries pollen from the tassels to the silks. Inadequate pollination may result in partially filled cobs.
For better results, grow multiple plants together in short rows or blocks.
If other maize varieties are flowering nearby, cross-pollination may influence the appearance or genetic purity of the resulting kernels and saved seeds.
Incorporate GREEN GARDENS Vermicompost into the soil before sowing.
Provide balanced additional nutrition as required during rapid vegetative growth and cob development.
Avoid nutrient deficiencies, especially during tasseling and ear formation.
Provide abundant direct sunlight.
Maintain regular watering during active growth.
Protect tall plants from strong winds where necessary.
Ensure proper drainage during monsoon rains.
Monitor for common maize pests, including stem borers and fall armyworm.
Maintain good plant spacing and airflow.
