Honeydew Melon F1 Hybrid (MDS-939) is a vigorous warm-season melon variety producing smooth pale-green to creamy fruits with sweet, juicy, pale-green to creamy-white flesh. It is suitable for home gardens, rooftop gardening, raised beds and warm-climate cultivation in Pakistan.

Sowing Season in Pakistan

February to April

This is the main sowing window for Lahore and other warm plains of Pakistan. Sow when the weather has started warming and avoid cold, waterlogged soil.

Germination Time and Temperature

Germination: Usually 5–10 days
Ideal soil temperature: Approximately 24–32°C

How to Sow

• Sow 1–2 seeds per cell, small pot or directly at the final planting position.
• Sowing depth: approximately 1.5–2 cm.
• Keep the growing medium evenly moist but never waterlogged.
• After germination, retain the strongest seedling.
• If raised in a nursery, transplant carefully after 2–3 true leaves develop.

Sunlight, Soil & Water

Sunlight: Full sun, preferably 6–8+ hours daily.
Soil: Fertile, loose and well-draining soil rich in organic matter.
Watering: Maintain consistent moisture during active growth, flowering and fruit development, while avoiding waterlogging.

Plant Spacing & Support

Allow approximately 45–60 cm between plants, with enough room for the vines to spread. Vines can also be trained on a strong trellis. When fruits are grown vertically, support developing melons with suitable fruit slings.

Flowering & Fruit Set

Honeydew vines produce male and female flowers. Good pollinator activity supports fruit set. Where pollinator activity is limited, hand pollination can be helpful. Avoid excessive nitrogen after flowering, as it may encourage leafy growth at the expense of fruiting.

Harvest

Under suitable growing conditions, harvest may begin approximately 75–90 days after sowing. Pick fruits when they reach mature size, develop their characteristic skin colour and show the normal maturity signs of the variety.

Growing Tips

• Do not overwater freshly sown seed.
• Use a fertile, lightweight and well-draining growing medium.
• Mulching helps conserve moisture and keeps ground-grown fruits cleaner.
• Maintain good airflow around the vine.
• Inspect regularly for common cucurbit pests and diseases.
• Support vertically grown fruits so their weight does not damage the vine.
