Dinosaur Kale – Nero di Toscana Precoce is a traditional Italian kale variety known for its long, narrow, dark blue-green leaves with a deeply textured surface. Also called Lacinato Kale, Tuscan Kale, Black Kale, Cavolo Nero, or Black Palm Kale, this attractive leafy vegetable is suitable for home gardens, raised beds, pots, and grow bags.

This early variety generally matures approximately 53–65 days after transplanting under suitable growing conditions. Mature plants may reach up to 90 cm in height and produce long, tender leaves that can be harvested individually, allowing the plant to continue producing over an extended period.

Dinosaur Kale performs best during cool weather and is known for tolerating low temperatures. Its flavour may become milder and slightly sweeter after exposure to cold conditions. The young leaves are especially suitable for fresh use, while mature leaves can be cooked in a variety of dishes.

Growing Information

Sow the seeds in cool weather in moist, well-draining soil. Start seeds in a nursery tray or small pots and transplant healthy seedlings once they develop several true leaves.

Provide the plants with regular watering, good airflow, and sufficient sunlight. Avoid waterlogging. Harvest the lower outer leaves first while leaving the central growing point intact for continued production.
