Best Sowing Season in the Plains of Pakistan

Winter Crop:
October to December

Summer Crop:
February to March

Avoid sowing during periods of extreme heat or severe cold, as temperature stress can reduce germination, flowering and fruit development.

Germination Time

7–14 days

Recommended Germination Temperature

15°C to 28°C

Growing Instructions from Seeds

1. Prepare the Growing Medium

Use a light, fertile and well-draining growing medium.

Recommended Soil / Potting Mix

50% Vermicompost
50% Bhalu Mitti (Sandy Soil)

Mix both ingredients thoroughly before sowing.

The growing medium should remain moist but should never become waterlogged.

2. Seed Sowing

Sow capsicum seeds approximately:

0.5 to 1 cm deep

You can start seeds in:

  • Seedling trays
  • Small pots
  • Nursery containers

Place one or two seeds in each planting spot and lightly cover them with the growing medium.

Water gently after sowing.

3. Germination

Seeds generally germinate within:

7–14 days

Maintain a temperature between:

15°C and 28°C

Keep the soil consistently moist during germination, but avoid excessive watering.

4. Light Requirements

After germination, provide seedlings with bright light.

Established capsicum plants generally perform best with approximately:

6–8 hours of sunlight daily

During unusually hot weather, some protection from harsh afternoon heat may help reduce plant stress.

5. Transplanting

Seedlings can usually be transplanted when they develop approximately:

4–6 true leaves

Transplant carefully to avoid damaging the roots.

Water immediately after transplanting.

6. Plant Spacing

For garden beds, maintain approximately:

40–50 cm spacing between plants

Adequate spacing improves:

  • Air circulation
  • Sunlight exposure
  • Plant growth
  • Flowering
  • Fruit development

Recommended Grow Bags

Capsicum can be successfully grown in containers and fabric grow bags.

Recommended GREEN GARDENS Grow Bags:

🔗 G-11 Grow Bag – 11 × 10 inch

🔗 G-12 Grow Bag – 12 × 12 inch

🔗G-24 Grow Bag – 24 × 12 inch

For G-24, multiple plants may be grown where sufficient spacing and nutrition are maintained.

Watering

Water whenever the upper layer of soil begins to dry.

Keep soil evenly moist but avoid keeping the root zone continuously wet.

Irregular watering can negatively affect flowering and fruit development.

Fertilization

Capsicum is a moderately heavy-feeding vegetable.

Use fertile organic growing media and provide balanced plant nutrition during active growth.

Avoid excessive nitrogen fertilization because it may encourage excessive leafy growth with reduced flowering and fruit production.

Flowering and Fruit Development

Plants normally begin producing flowers after becoming well established.

For healthy fruit development:

  • Maintain adequate sunlight
  • Water consistently
  • Avoid excessive nitrogen
  • Maintain good plant nutrition
  • Protect plants from extreme temperature stress

Capsicum fruits initially develop green and later mature into their final red or yellow colour according to the variety.

Harvesting

Capsicum may be harvested while green or allowed to mature fully to develop its characteristic red or yellow colour.

Use clean scissors or a garden pruner to harvest fruits instead of pulling them forcefully from the plant.

Regular harvesting may encourage continued fruit production.
