Fill the seed tray, pot or grow bag with loose, fertile and well-draining soil. Level the surface gently without compacting it excessively.
Sow Calendula seeds approximately 0.5–1 cm deep. Cover lightly with fine soil or growing medium.
Water with a fine shower or mist immediately after sowing. Keep the soil consistently moist during germination, but avoid waterlogging.
Under suitable conditions, seeds normally germinate in approximately 7–14 days.
Calendula performs best in Full Sun – approximately 6 hours or more daily. Light shade can be tolerated, but flowering may be reduced.
Once seedlings are established, thin or transplant carefully. Maintain approximately 15–20 cm spacing between plants for healthy air circulation and flowering. For container growing, keep one healthy plant in a G-8 grow bag.
Calendula generally performs well in moderately fertile soil.
Under suitable winter conditions, Calendula begins flowering after establishment and can continue producing blooms through the cool season. Regularly remove faded flowers to encourage more flower buds, longer flowering, neater plants and reduced unnecessary seed formation.
Cut spent flower heads just above a healthy leaf or branching point. Regular deadheading is one of the easiest ways to maintain continuous Calendula flowering.
