F1 Hybrid Cabbage is selected for vigorous growth, uniform plant development and good head formation.
Under suitable growing conditions, plants produce compact cabbage heads surrounded by healthy outer leaves.
Exact head size, maturity period, shape and colour may vary according to the specific hybrid seed strain and growing conditions.
Cabbage is suitable for:
G-12 Grow Bag – 12 × 12 inch
Suitable for approximately one well-spaced cabbage plant.
G-24 Grow Bag – 24 × 12 inch
Suitable for approximately 2–3 plants depending on spacing and cultivar size.
G-36 Grow Bag – 36 × 12 inch
Suitable for a wider row of cabbage plants with proper spacing.
For larger cabbage heads, adequate root space and plant spacing are important.
Use a fertile, loose and well-drained growing medium rich in organic matter.
A practical GREEN GARDENS mix can be:
50% Bhalu Mitti (Sandy Soil) + 50% Vermicompost
Cabbage is a relatively heavy-feeding vegetable, so fertile soil and regular nutrition help support strong leafy growth and head development.
Avoid permanently wet or compact soil.
Prepare a fine, fertile and well-drained seed-starting medium.
Nursery trays, seedling cells or a small seedbed can be used.
Sow seeds approximately:
0.5–1 cm deep
Cover lightly with fine soil or growing medium.
Water carefully after sowing.
Keep the medium evenly moist without making it soggy.
Seeds generally germinate within:
5–10 days
under suitable temperature and moisture conditions.
Place seedlings in bright light.
After transplanting, cabbage generally performs best with approximately:
5–6+ hours of direct sunlight daily
Good sunlight encourages stronger plants and better head development.
Keep seedlings adequately spaced and provide good airflow.
Avoid keeping young plants constantly wet.
Transplant seedlings when they are well established and have approximately:
4–5 true leaves
Handle seedlings carefully to minimise root disturbance.
Maintain approximately:
30–45 cm between plants
depending on the mature size of the hybrid.
Adequate spacing improves airflow and allows proper cabbage head development.
Water regularly and keep the soil reasonably moist.
Cabbage performs best with consistent moisture during active growth.
Avoid prolonged drought followed by excessive watering.
Do not allow the root zone to remain waterlogged.
Cabbage benefits from fertile soil and regular feeding.
Vermicompost can be incorporated into the soil before planting and applied moderately during growth.
Balanced vegetable nutrition may be used according to plant requirements.
Avoid excessive nitrogen once head formation is well underway.
Keep the growing area free from weeds.
Maintain good airflow around plants.
Inspect regularly for common brassica pests such as caterpillars, aphids and other leaf-feeding insects.
Remove badly damaged leaves when necessary.
As plants mature, inner leaves begin forming a compact central head.
Maintain consistent moisture and nutrition during this stage.
Avoid damaging or removing healthy wrapper leaves unnecessarily.
Harvest when the cabbage head becomes:
Firm, compact and well developed
Cut the head at the base using a clean, sharp knife.
Do not delay harvesting excessively once heads become mature and firm..
