Recommended Soil / Potting Mix

Use a light, loose and well-drained growing medium.

A practical GREEN GARDENS mix can be:

50% Bhalu Mitti (Sandy Soil) + 50% Vermicompost

For Baby’s Breath, drainage is especially important. Avoid compact, heavy or permanently wet soil.

Growing Instructions from Seeds

1. Prepare the Growing Medium
Prepare a fine, loose and well-drained seed-starting surface.

2. Sow the Seeds
Sow very shallowly:

Approximately 2–5 mm deep

Cover only lightly with fine soil.

3. Water Gently
Mist or water gently so the small seeds are not displaced.

Keep the medium lightly moist.

4. Germination
Seeds generally germinate within:

7–14 days

under suitable conditions.

5. Light Requirements
Provide bright light and, once established, approximately 5–6+ hours of sunlight daily.

6. Thin the Seedlings
Thin overcrowded seedlings after true leaves develop.

7. Transplanting
Transplant carefully when seedlings are strong enough to handle.

Avoid unnecessary root disturbance.

8. Plant Spacing
Maintain approximately:

20–30 cm between plants

depending on the growth habit of the seed strain.

9. Watering
Water moderately.

Allow the upper soil surface to begin drying before watering again.

Avoid waterlogging.

10. Feeding
Baby’s Breath generally does not require excessively rich feeding.

If using Vermicompost, apply moderately rather than heavily.

11. General Care
Maintain good airflow and remove damaged or weak growth when necessary.

Avoid excessive nitrogen feeding, which can encourage soft leafy growth at the expense of flowering.

12. Flowering
Plants develop fine branching stems carrying numerous small flowers.

For a fuller garden display, several plants can be grown together with proper spacing.

13. Cutting Flowers
For bouquets, cut stems when many flowers are open but the spray still looks fresh.

Place cut stems immediately in clean water.

For drying, hang suitable stems upside down in a dry, shaded and well-ventilated place.
