Indian Dahlia is one of the most popular flowering plants due to its large, colorful, and long-lasting blooms. Each bulb produces strong stems with vibrant flowers perfect for winter–spring gardens, borders, flower beds, and stunning cut flower arrangements. Dahlias add an instant impact to any garden with their wide range of colors, full petals, and continuous flowering habit.
These bulbs are easy to grow in Pakistan’s climate and are ideal for both beginners and experienced gardeners.
Best planting time:
October to January (Cool winter season)
Blooming time:
February to May
Use well-draining soil 50% Sandy Soil (Bhall) and 50% vermicomoist.
Soil should be loose and airy to prevent bulb rot.
Plant bulbs 4 - 6 inches deep.
Keep 12 - 18 inches spacing between each bulb for proper growth.
Indian Dahlia needs full sun (5 - 6 hours daily) for best flowering.
After planting, water lightly.
Do not overwater—bulbs can rot in wet soil.
Once shoots appear, water when the topsoil becomes dry.
At planting: Mix well-rotted compost or organic fertilizer in the soil.
After sprouting: Apply NPK 10-10-10 or flower booster fertilizer every 15 - 20 days.
Avoid too much nitrogen - it increases leaves and reduces flowers.
Remove faded blooms to encourage new flowers (deadheading).
Provide support (stakes) for tall varieties to prevent bending.
Protect from snails and aphids with neem spray or organic pest control.
Blooms start 8 - 10 weeks after planting.
Continuous blooming through late winter and spring.
When the plant dries, you can dig up the bulbs, clean them, dry for 4 - 5 days, and store them in a cool place for the next season.
