G-11 Grow Bag – 11 × 10 inch 🔗

G-12 Grow Bag – 12 × 12 inch 🔗

Highly recommended for African Marigold Yellow.

Its additional soil volume provides better moisture stability and sufficient root space for healthy plant development.

For best container performance:

Grow one strong plant per G-11 or G-12 Grow Bag.

Recommended Soil / Potting Mix

Use fertile, loose and well-draining soil rich in organic matter.

A practical GREEN GARDENS mix can be:

50% Bhalu Mitti (Sandy Soil) + 50% GREEN GARDENS Vermicompost 🔗

African Marigold prefers:

  • Fertile soil
  • Good drainage
  • Loose soil structure
  • Organic matter
  • Good root aeration
  • Moderate moisture

Avoid permanently wet or waterlogged soil.

Growing Instructions from Seeds

1. Sowing

Seeds can be started in:

  • Seedling trays
  • Small pots
  • Nursery beds
  • Prepared garden soil

Sow approximately:

0.5 cm deep

and cover lightly with fine soil.

Keep the growing medium gently moist until germination.

2. Germination

Seeds generally germinate within approximately:

7–14 days

under suitable conditions.

Keep the soil evenly moist but never waterlogged.

Provide good light once seedlings begin emerging.

3. Transplanting

Transplant seedlings once they are established and have developed several true leaves.

Handle roots carefully and water immediately after transplanting.

Plant Spacing

Maintain approximately:

10–12 inches / 25–30 cm between plants.

Proper spacing encourages:

  • Better branching
  • Good airflow
  • Healthy foliage
  • More flowering
  • Better plant shape
  • Reduced overcrowding

For container growing:

One plant per G-11 or G-12 Grow Bag is recommended.

Sunlight

Provide approximately:

6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily.

Full sun encourages:

  • Strong growth
  • Better branching
  • More flowers
  • Brighter yellow colour
  • Stronger stems

Plants grown in excessive shade may become weak and produce fewer flowers.

Watering

Keep the soil moderately and evenly moist during active growth.

Allow the upper soil surface to begin drying slightly before watering again.

Avoid:

  • Waterlogging
  • Standing water
  • Permanently wet soil
  • Repeated severe drying

Container-grown plants may require more frequent watering during warmer weather.

Feeding

Before planting, enrich the soil with:

GREEN GARDENS Vermicompost 🔗

Additional Vermicompost or a mild balanced flowering fertiliser may be applied during active growth.

Avoid excessive nitrogen, as it may encourage heavy foliage growth with fewer flowers.

Pinching

Lightly pinching the growing tip of young established plants can encourage:

  • More side branches
  • Bushier growth
  • Additional flowering stems
  • Fuller plants

Avoid excessive pinching once strong flower-bud development has started.

Flowering

African Marigold Yellow produces attractive large, bright yellow flowers over an extended flowering period.

Flowering performance depends on:

  • Sowing time
  • Sunlight
  • Temperature
  • Soil fertility
  • Watering
  • Plant health

Regular care and adequate sunlight encourage abundant flowering.

Deadheading

Remove faded flowers regularly.

Deadheading encourages continued flowering and keeps plants neat and attractive.

Cut spent flowers using clean scissors or pruning snips.

If seed saving is desired, selected mature flower heads can be allowed to dry naturally on the plant.

Cut Flower Use

African Marigold Yellow is also suitable for:

Cut-flower arrangements.

Harvest fresh, well-developed flowers using clean, sharp scissors.

Place cut stems into clean water immediately after harvesting.

The large bright yellow flowers provide excellent colour in bouquets and floral displays.

Summer Care

Plants established during spring may continue flowering into warmer weather.

During hotter conditions:

  • Water regularly when required
  • Avoid severe drying
  • Maintain good airflow
  • Check containers frequently
  • Remove faded blooms
  • Maintain moderate feeding

Container-grown plants normally require more frequent watering during hot weather.

Pest Care

Inspect plants regularly for:

  • Aphids
  • Whiteflies
  • Spider mites
  • Thrips
  • Caterpillars
  • Leaf-eating insects

Check new growth, flower buds and lower leaf surfaces regularly.

Early detection makes pest management easier.

Disease Care

Maintain:

  • Good drainage
  • Proper spacing
  • Full sunlight
  • Good airflow
  • Moderate watering

Avoid excessive watering, waterlogging and continuously wet foliage.

Remove damaged or diseased leaves where necessary.

Pollinator Value

African Marigold flowers can attract beneficial garden visitors including:

  • Bees
  • Butterflies
  • Other pollinating insects

Growing marigolds alongside vegetables and other flowers can help create a more diverse and attractive garden environment.

Honest Colour & Performance Note

Flower colour, bloom size, plant height and flowering intensity may vary slightly according to:

  • Climate
  • Temperature
  • Sunlight
  • Soil fertility
  • Watering
  • Plant spacing
  • Seasonal conditions

The expected flower colour is:

Bright Yellow

This variety should not be confused with the Gold African Marigold, which produces a deeper golden-yellow shade.

Product photographs represent the expected appearance of mature plants under suitable growing conditions.
