Zinnia Elegans White is a premium heat-tolerant annual, essential for Pakistani summer gardens. Known for its large, dahlia-like pure white blooms, this variety stands out against the lush green of the monsoon season. Reaching 24–36 inches, these sturdy flowers are excellent for "Moon Gardens," as the white petals glow beautifully during warm summer nights. They are highly attractive to local butterflies and honeybees and make long-lasting cut flowers for indoor vases.
Best Sowing Time: February – April (Best for blooms before July).
Sowing Depth: 1/4 inch (6mm).
Method: Sow in seed trays or 8/8" grow bag using a mix of bhal (river sand) and vermicompost with 50% ratio. Because of the rapid evaporation in Pakistan, keep trays in a shaded but bright area to prevent the soil from baking.
Germination: 5–7 days (faster in warmer Pakistani temperatures).
Transplanting: Move to the ground or large pots when seedlings have 2–3 sets of true leaves.
Timing: In Pakistan, transplant in the late evening to avoid "transplant shock" from the afternoon sun.
Spacing: 10–12 inches. Good airflow is vital during the humid monsoon months to prevent leaf diseases.
Sunlight: Full sun is great, but during extreme May/June heatwaves (45°C+), afternoon filtered shade will help the flowers last longer and prevent petal burn.
Watering: Water early morning. Avoid evening watering during the monsoon to prevent fungus. Always water the soil, not the leaves.
Pinching: Crucial step. Pinch the top of the plant when it is 8 inches tall to create a bushy, heat-resistant shrub rather than one tall, weak stem.
Mulching: In Pakistan's dry heat, add a layer of organic mulch (dry grass or leaf mold) around the base to keep the roots cool.
