Tomatillo Seeds produce vibrant, green-purple fruits encased in a papery husk, known for their tangy flavor and essential use in Mexican cuisine, especially for salsas and sauces. These fast-growing, low-maintenance plants are perfect for home gardens, containers, and raised beds. Tomatillos are self-infertile, so growing at least two plants ensures optimal fruit production.
Best sowing months in Pakistan: January to April for spring crops and August to October for autumn crops.
Seed Sowing: Start seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before the last frost. Sow 0.5–1 cm deep in seed trays or pots with well-draining soil.
Transplanting: Transplant seedlings outdoors after all danger of frost has passed. Space plants 60–90 cm apart.
Sunlight: Full sun (6–8 hours/day) promotes healthy growth and fruit production.
Watering: Keep soil evenly moist; avoid waterlogging to prevent root rot.
Care: Stake or cage plants to support spreading branches. Fertilize every 3–4 weeks with a balanced fertilizer.
Growth & Harvest: Plants grow 90–120 cm tall. Fruits are ready to harvest when the husk turns brown and the fruit fills it completely.
Tangy & Flavorful Fruits: Essential for salsas, sauces, and Mexican dishes.
High Yield: Produces abundant, husk-covered fruits with consistent size.
Pollinator-Friendly: Attracts bees and beneficial insects.
Easy to Grow: Suitable for home gardens, containers, and raised beds.
Versatile: Can be used fresh, cooked, or preserved.
