Growing Instructions from Seeds

Sowing Time

Sow during February and March when the weather begins to warm.

Soil Preparation

Use fertile, soft and well-draining soil. A suitable mixture is:

• 50% Bhalu mitti

• 50% vermicompost or well-decomposed organic compost

Avoid heavy soil that remains waterlogged.

Seed Preparation

Soak the seeds in clean water for approximately 6–8 hours before sowing. Avoid soaking them for too long, as excessive moisture may damage the seeds.

Sowing Depth

Sow each seed approximately 1 to 1.5 inches deep.

Spacing

Maintain approximately:

• 6–8 inches between plants

• 18–24 inches between rows

Container Size

Use a large grow bag or container with good drainage. A container approximately 12–16 inches deep and wide is suitable for a limited number of plants.

Trellis Support

Install a strong trellis, bamboo frame, net or climbing support soon after germination. Guide the young vines gently towards the support.

Sunlight

Provide at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily.

Watering

Water immediately after sowing and keep the soil lightly moist during germination. Once established, water whenever the upper layer of soil begins to dry.

Avoid overwatering and standing water.

Germination

Seeds generally germinate within approximately 7–14 days under suitable temperature, moisture and soil conditions.

Feeding

Mix organic compost or vermicompost into the soil before sowing. During active growth, a light application of balanced plant nutrition may be given according to the product instructions.

Avoid excessive nitrogen, as it may produce too many leaves with fewer pods.

Harvesting

Allow the pods to mature and dry on the plant when growing them for dried red kidney beans. Harvest the dry pods, remove the beans and dry them thoroughly before storage.

Important: Red kidney beans must be properly soaked and thoroughly cooked before eating. Raw or undercooked kidney beans should not be consumed.
