Radish White – RADISH 40 DAYS (Summer Late Variety)

RADISH 40 DAYS is a late-season white radish variety that produces smooth, long white roots under suitable growing conditions. It is suitable for grow bags, containers, raised beds, kitchen gardens and open-ground cultivation.

The variety can be harvested relatively early when grown under suitable seasonal and soil conditions.

Growing Instructions

Sowing season:
20 June to 15 August

Sowing method:
Sow the seeds directly in the final container, raised bed or soil bed. Radish seedlings should not normally be transplanted because root disturbance may affect their shape.

Seed soaking is optional. The seeds may be soaked in clean water for 2–4 hours before sowing.

Sow approximately ½ inch deep and cover lightly with soft soil.

Recommended grow-bag sizes:

12 × 12 inches
24 × 12 inches
36 × 12 inches

Use a container with adequate depth and proper drainage.

Soil:
Use loose, soft, stone-free and well-draining soil. A recommended mixture is:

50% Bhalu Mitti
50% organic matter, preferably vermicompost

Avoid hard, stony or compacted soil, as it may affect normal root development and shape.

Plant spacing:
Thin overcrowded seedlings after germination and maintain approximately 3–4 inches of spacing between plants.

Sunlight:
Provide approximately 5–6 hours of morning sunlight. During extremely hot weather, protect young plants from intense afternoon sunlight.

Watering:
Keep the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged. Avoid allowing the soil to become excessively dry between waterings.

Feeding:
Mix vermicompost into the soil before sowing. Additional feeding may not be required during the early growth stage when the soil contains sufficient organic matter.

Avoid excessive nitrogen fertilizer, as it may encourage leaf growth instead of proper root development.

Plant care:
Maintain proper spacing, remove weeds and provide good airflow. Check the plants regularly and remove yellow or damaged leaves when required.

Harvesting:
Harvesting may begin approximately 35–45 days after sowing, depending on the weather, soil and growing conditions.

Harvest the roots while they are young and tender. Delayed harvesting may result in harder or less tender roots.
