GALA 455 is a vigorous F1 Hybrid Okra variety developed for late-season cultivation. It produces tender, uniform green pods and performs well in warm and humid conditions. Suitable for rooftop gardens, kitchen gardens, grow bags, raised beds and open soil.
📢Important Note: The seeds are Thiram-treated to help protect against certain seed-borne and soil-borne fungal problems. Treated seeds are strictly for sowing and must not be consumed.
Sowing season: 20 June to 15 August
Sowing method: Sow directly in the final container. Soak seeds in clean water overnight or for 4–5 hours, then sow approximately 1 inch deep. Maintain about 8–10 inches spacing between plants.
Recommended grow bags:
24 × 12 inches
36 × 12 inches
45 × 12 inches
Avoid overcrowding and ensure proper drainage.
Soil: Use rich, soft and well-draining soil:
50% Bhalu Mitti
50% organic matter, preferably vermicompost
Sunlight: Provide 6–8 hours of morning sunlight. During extreme heat, keep freshly sown containers in bright shade and gradually shift seedlings into sunlight.
Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist but never waterlogged. Water when the upper soil layer begins to dry.
Feeding: Add vermicompost before sowing and apply a balanced vegetable fertilizer during active growth. Avoid excessive nitrogen.
Care: Maintain good airflow and inspect regularly for aphids, whiteflies, mites, jassids and fungal problems. Remove yellow or damaged leaves.
Harvesting: Pick pods while they are young, tender and approximately 3–5 inches long. Harvest every 1–2 days to encourage continued production and prevent pods from becoming hard or fibrous.
Quick Summary: Direct sowing, proper plant spacing, rich well-draining soil, regular harvesting and 6–8 hours of sunlight are essential for healthy growth and high yield.
