Mung Beans, commonly known as Moong or Mong Beans, are one of the most popular pulse crops grown in Pakistan. These plants produce slender pods containing small green beans that are widely used in cooking and sprouting.
Mung bean plants grow quickly and are easy to cultivate, making them an excellent choice for kitchen gardens, home gardens, and small farms. They thrive in warm climates and can produce harvest within a short period.
Moong beans are rich in protein, fiber, vitamins, and minerals, making them a healthy addition to everyday meals.

These plants grow best in warm temperatures between 25°C – 35°C.
Mung beans grow best in well-drained fertile soil.
Recommended soil mix for containers:
• 50% Garden Soil
• 30% Compost / Vermicompost
• 20% Sand or Cocopeat
Avoid waterlogged soil.
Seeds should be directly sown in the soil.
Sow seeds 2–3 cm deep.
Plant spacing: 10–15 cm
Row spacing: 30–40 cm
Seeds usually germinate in 4–7 days under warm conditions.
Mung beans require full sunlight.
Minimum sunlight: 6–8 hours daily
Water moderately.
• Keep soil slightly moist during germination
• Avoid overwatering
• Once plants establish, they tolerate mild dry conditions
Water 2–3 times per week depending on weather.
Mung beans are legumes and can fix nitrogen in soil, so they require minimal fertilization.
Before planting add:
• Compost
• Well-rotted manure
During growth you can apply:
• Compost tea
• Vermicompost every 15–20 days
Pods start maturing in 60–75 days.
Harvest when pods turn dark brown or black and dry.
After harvesting, pods are dried and seeds are separated.
