Morning Glory Kikyo Zaki is a unique and beautiful variety of Morning Glory known for its star-shaped, split-petal flowers that resemble a Japanese bellflower (Kikyo). The “Mixed” strain produces a stunning range of colors including blue, purple, pink, white, and bi-color shades.
It is a fast-growing, climbing annual vine that blooms profusely in the morning and adds a dramatic, elegant look to fences, trellises, arches, balconies, and pergolas. This variety performs very well in Pakistan’s warm climate and is easy to grow from seed.

Growing Instructions

1. Sunlight

  • Full sun is essential (6–8 hours daily).

  • Light shade in extreme heat is acceptable, but flowering is best in direct sunlight.

2. Soil

  • Well-drained, fertile soil (sandy loam or garden soil mixed with compost).

  • Soil pH: 6.0 – 7.5.

3. Seed Preparation

  • Soak seeds in clean water for 8–12 hours before sowing to soften the hard seed coat and improve germination.

4. Sowing Method

  • Sow directly in the ground or in large pots.

  • Depth: 1–1.5 cm

  • Plant spacing: 30–45 cm

  • Germination time: 7–12 days in warm weather.

5. Watering

  • Water immediately after sowing.

  • Keep soil lightly moist until seedlings establish.

  • Afterward, water 2–3 times per week (daily in peak summer heat).

6. Support

  • Provide climbing support such as trellis, wire, net, fence, or bamboo sticks.

7. Fertilization

  • Mix compost or well-rotted manure into soil before planting.

  • Apply balanced liquid or granular fertilizer (NPK 10-10-10) every 3–4 weeks.

  • Avoid excess nitrogen to ensure more flowers and fewer leaves.

8. Flowering & Maintenance

  • Flowering begins about 35–45 days after sowing.

  • Remove weak vines and dry flowers to encourage continuous blooming.

  • Control aphids and mites with neem oil or mild insecticidal soap.

Uses

  • Ideal for balconies, fences, walls, pergolas, arches, and vertical gardens.

  • Creates a colorful, artistic display with its rare star-shaped blooms.
