Fenugreek (میتھرے) is a popular aromatic herb and leafy vegetable widely used in Pakistani cooking for its distinct aroma and slightly bitter, nutty flavor. It’s a fast-growing, cool-season crop producing tender green leaves and seeds rich in iron, fiber, and antioxidants.
Methry is valued not only as a delicious desi saag but also for its medicinal benefits—it helps in digestion, blood sugar control, and overall wellness. Perfect for home gardens, fenugreek grows easily in pots, beds, or open soil.
1. Soil:
Loose, fertile, well-drained loamy soil with good organic matter. pH 6.0–7.0 preferred.
2. Sowing Time (Pakistan):
Best sown from October to February in cool weather.
3. Sowing Method:
Sow seeds ¼ inch (0.5 cm) deep directly in the soil.
Space rows 8–10 inches apart.
Sprinkle seeds evenly and cover lightly with soil.
4. Watering:
Keep soil evenly moist. Avoid overwatering; water lightly once the topsoil dries.
5. Sunlight:
Prefers full sun (5–6 hours daily), though partial shade is also tolerated.
6. Germination Time:
Seeds germinate in 5–10 days depending on temperature.
7. Harvesting:
For leaves: Harvest tender leaves 20–30 days after sowing.
