It is fast-growing, high-yielding, and perfect for use in cooking, garnishing, and making chutneys. 1. Soil Preparation:
Use well-drained, fertile soil rich in organic matter.
Ideal soil pH: 6.0–7.5.
Mix compost or well-rotted organic matter to improve fertility and structure.
2. Sowing Season:
Best sowing months: October to February in Punjab, Lahore, and similar regions.
Can also be grown from February to April in cooler or partially shaded areas.
3. Sowing Method:
Sow seeds 0.5–1 cm deep in rows spaced 15–20 cm apart.
Keep the soil consistently moist until germination (7–10 days).
Thin seedlings to ensure healthy growth and airflow.
4. Watering & Sunlight:
Keep soil evenly moist, avoiding waterlogging.
Requires 4–6 hours of sunlight daily; partial shade is acceptable in hotter areas.
5. Maintenance:
Regularly trim outer leaves to encourage continuous growth.
Fertilize lightly with organic compost or liquid fertilizers if needed.
Prevent pests like aphids using organic sprays such as neem oil.
6. Harvesting:
Leaves are ready for harvest 25–30 days after sowing.
Harvest outer leaves first, leaving the center intact for continuous growth.
Avoid harvesting after flowering as leaves become bitter.
7. Tips for Success in Pakistan:
Avoid sowing in very hot months to prevent bolting.
F1 Hybrid seeds produce the best results in cooler seasons.
Store seeds in a cool, dry place to maintain viability.
