Approx 600 seeds in the pack.
Chia is a member of the mint family. When fully grown, it is a hardy, herbaceous plant that can reach heights of 3 to 4 feet.
Foliage: It has thick, green, wrinkled leaves arranged oppositely.
Flowers: It produces beautiful spikes of small purple or white flowers (similar to the ones in the image we edited).
Seeds: The seeds are tiny, oval, and mottle-colored (black, grey, and white). They are famous for their ability to absorb up to 12 times their weight in liquid.
As mentioned, timing is everything in Pakistan to avoid the "burning" heat of May/June.
Best Time: September 15th to October 15th.
This allows the plant to grow during the mild autumn, flower in winter, and be ready for harvest in March/April before the heatwaves hit.
Type: Chia thrives in sandy loam or well-drained soils. It hates waterlogging; if the roots stay wet, they will rot.
Preparation: Plow the field or garden bed 2–3 times to make the soil fine. Add well-rotted cow dung (organic manure) to boost nutrient levels.
Seed Rate: You only need about 1.5 to 2 kg of seed per acre. For a home garden, a tiny pinch is enough for a large pot.
Technique: Use the "Broadcast" method (sprinkling) or sow in rows 1.5 feet apart. Lightly rake the soil over them or just press them down.
First Irrigation: Give a very light watering immediately after sowing.
Frequency: Once established, chia is quite drought-tolerant. In Pakistan's climate, watering every 10–15 days during the winter is usually sufficient.
Weeding: Keep the area clear of weeds for the first 45 days. Once the chia plant grows tall, its canopy will naturally shade out most weeds.
Signs: The crop is ready when the flower spikes turn brown and the leaves start to fall off.
Process: Cut the spikes and let them dry on a clean cloth or floor for a few days.
Threshing: Gently beat the dried spikes to release the seeds. Clean them using a fine sieve to remove dust and husks.

If you are growing these for health benefits, here is what the "Meta" looks like for the harvest:
Omega-3 Fatty Acids: ~17.8g (High ALA content)
Dietary Fiber: ~34.4g (Excellent for digestion)
Protein: ~16.5g (Complete protein with all 9 essential amino acids)
Antioxidants: High levels of chlorogenic acid, caffeic acid, and quercetin.
Note: Since chia is a tall plant, avoid planting it in very windy spots without protection, as the stalks can snap when heavy with seeds.
