Winter Sowing: October to February
Thrives in cool, frost-free winter conditions.
Produces uniform heads throughout winter and early spring.
1. Soil Preparation:
Use fertile, well-drained soil enriched with compost or organic matter.
Soil pH: 6.0–7.0.
Add well-rotted manure before sowing for better head development.
2. Sowing Method:
Sow seeds in nursery trays, pots, or seedbeds.
Cover lightly with 0.5–1 cm of soil.
Keep soil moist until germination.
Germination occurs in 7–12 days.
3. Transplanting:
Transplant seedlings after 4–6 weeks, when 4–5 true leaves develop.
Maintain 45–60 cm spacing between plants.
Choose sunny locations for optimal growth.
4. Watering:
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture.
Avoid waterlogging to prevent root diseases.
5. Fertilization:
Apply balanced NPK fertilizer after 20–25 days of transplanting.
Repeat light fertilization every 15–20 days to support head formation.
6. Harvesting:
Harvest when heads are compact, firm, and fully purple.
Usually ready in 80–100 days depending on conditions.
