Carrot Orange is a popular winter-season root vegetable seed variety for home gardening and kitchen gardening in Pakistan. It produces attractive orange carrots with fresh green tops, making it suitable for growing in garden beds, raised beds, and deep grow bags.
This variety is ideal for gardeners who want to grow fresh carrots at home for salads, cooking, soups, and everyday kitchen use. Carrots grow best in soft, loose, well-draining soil where the roots can develop smoothly without bending or forking.
Sowing Season in Pakistan: September to November
Best For: Home gardens, kitchen gardens, raised beds, and deep containers
Growing Method: Direct sowing from seeds
Plant Type: Winter root vegetable
Growing Instructions from Seeds
Soil
Use rich, soft, and well-draining soil. Carrots need loose soil for proper root development. Remove stones, hard lumps, and undecomposed organic material because they can cause twisted or forked carrots.
A good soil mix is garden soil with well-decomposed compost or vermicompost. Avoid heavy clay soil unless it is improved with sand and organic matter.
Sowing Method
Sow carrot seeds directly where you want the plants to grow. Do not transplant carrot seedlings because transplanting can damage the root and affect carrot shape.
Sow seeds about ¼ inch deep in moist soil. Cover lightly with fine soil and press gently.
Spacing
After germination, thin the seedlings carefully.
Keep about 2–3 inches distance between plants so the carrots have enough space to develop properly.
For rows, keep about 6–8 inches distance between rows.
Watering
Keep the soil lightly moist during germination. Do not let the soil dry out completely, especially in the first 10–15 days.
After plants are established, water regularly but avoid overwatering. Soil should remain moist, not soggy.
Sunlight
Carrots grow best in full sun to partial sun. Give at least 5–6 hours of sunlight daily for healthy growth.
Germination
Carrot seeds usually germinate in 7–21 days, depending on temperature, soil moisture, and seed quality. Keep the seedbed consistently moist for better germination.
Fertilizer
Use well-decomposed compost or vermicompost before sowing. Avoid too much nitrogen fertilizer because it can produce excessive leaves and poor root growth.
For container growing, light organic feeding after 20–25 days can support healthy development.
Container / Grow Bag
Carrots can be grown in deep grow bags or containers. Use a container with good drainage and at least 10–12 inches depth. A 12×12 inch grow bag is suitable for a small home garden crop if plants are properly spaced.
Care Tips
Remove weeds regularly because carrot seedlings grow slowly in the beginning. Keep the soil loose and avoid disturbing the roots.
Thin seedlings on time to prevent overcrowding.
Harvesting
Carrots are usually ready for harvest in about 70–90 days, depending on growing conditions. Harvest when roots reach a good usable size. Gently loosen the soil before pulling to avoid breaking the carrots.
