Description:

Lemon balm is a winter-hardy herb with leaves that smell like lemon. The leaves are commonly used for making herbal tea. In the second year the plants really start to blossom. It is suited for drying, as long as the leaves are cut before flowering.

Sowing: February to August

Harvesting: May to October

HOW TO SOW:

• Sprinkle seeds on a leveled surface of soft moist soil and cover lightly with thin layer of soil. DO NOT COVER WITH THICK LAYER.
• Keep the soil moist until germination.
• Seeds will germinate in 7-14 days.
• Thin seedlings to 18 inches apart when they have three or four true leaves.
• Mint and Lemon Balm prefers soil that is rich in organic material and well-draining. 50% Bhall , 50% leaf compost will be the best soil mix for mint.

Harvest leaves as required, but make sure to pick above the bottom two true leaves, so the plant can re-grow. Don’t be shy about harvesting Lemon Balm, as this will help it to grow more vigorously.

To Keep Lemon Balm from spreading too much in your garden, grow it in pots, or cut off its flowers before they have a chance to go to seed.
