Approx 40-50 seeds in the pack
Gomphrena, commonly known as Globe Amaranth, is a charming annual flower cherished for its vibrant, globe-shaped blooms and long-lasting nature.
Description:
Gomphrena features compact bushes adorned with rounded, papery flowers that come in a variety of striking colors including purple, pink, white, and red. These flowers retain their shape and color even after drying, making them popular for dried flower arrangements and crafts.
Sowing Season:
Sow Gomphrena seeds in early spring (February to May). They require warm soil to germinate and thrive in hot weather conditions.
Soil:
Plant Gomphrena in well-drained, fertile soil with a pH range of 6.0 to 7.5. They tolerate a wide range of soil types but prefer soil that is rich in organic matter.
Transplantation:
Transplant seedlings into the garden or containers once they have developed several sets of true leaves. Ensure the soil is warm and all danger of frost has passed before transplanting.
Care:
– Provide full sun exposure for optimal growth and flowering. Gomphrena thrives in bright sunlight.
– Water regularly, keeping the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged. Avoid overwatering, as this can lead to root rot.
– Mulch around plants to retain soil moisture and suppress weed growth.
– Fertilize monthly with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer to encourage healthy growth and flowering.
Tips for Getting More Flowers:
– Pinch back the tips of the stems when the plants are young to encourage branching and more flower production.
– Deadhead spent blooms regularly to promote continuous flowering. This encourages the plant to redirect its energy into producing new flowers rather than seed production.
Deadheading:
Remove faded flowers by pinching or cutting them off just above a set of leaves. Deadheading not only improves the plant’s appearance but also encourages the production of new flowers.
Saving Seeds:
Allow some flowers to remain on the plant until they develop seed heads. Once the seed heads are dry and brown, carefully collect the seeds and store them in a cool, dry place for planting in the next season.
Gomphrena, with its cheerful blooms and easy-care nature, is a wonderful addition to flower beds, borders, and containers in Pakistan. With proper care and attention to watering and sunlight, it will reward you with an abundance of colorful flowers throughout the growing season.
