Growing Instructions
1. Sowing Season:
– Sow seeds indoors in late winter to early spring, or directly sow them outdoors after the last frost date in your area. In Pakistan, Coreopsis seeds can be sown outdoors in late winter to early spring, typically from February to March, or in early autumn from September to October.
2. Soil:
– Coreopsis thrive in well-drained, modertely fertile soil. Loamy soil with a p level of 6.0 to 7.0 is ideal.
– Ensure the soil is loose and well-aerated to promote healthy root development.
3. Planting:
– Space Coreopsis plants about 12 to 18 inches apart, as they can spread and fill in gaps over time.
– Plant them in an area with full sun exposure, as they require at least 6 hours of sunlight daily to bloom profusely.
4. Watering:
– Water newly planted Coreopsis regularly to keep the soil consistently moist, but not waterlogged, until they establish themselves.
– Once established, Coreopsis are drought-tolerant and only require watering during prolonged dry spells.
5. Fertilizer:
– Coreopsis are not heavy feeders, but you can apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring to encourage healthy growth and abundant blooms.
– Avoid high-nitrogen fertilizers, as they can promote excessive foliage growth at the expense of flowers.
6. Maintenance:
– Deadhead spent blooms regularly to prolong the flowering season and encourage continuous blooming.
– Divide overcrowded clumps every 2 to 3 years in early spring to maintain plant vigor and prevent overcrowding.
– Mulch around the base of the plants to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture.
7. Pests and Diseases:
– Coreopsis are relatively pest and disease resistant, but they can occasionally be susceptible to aphids, spider mites, and powdery mildew.
– Monitor plants regularly and treat any pest or disease issues promptly with organic or chemical controls as needed.
By following these growing instructions, you can enjoy a beautiful display of Coreopsis flowers in your garden from spring through fall.
